Battle Alley, the Renaissance Festival, and a small-town heart.
Holly sits in northern Oakland County, far enough from metro Detroit to feel like its own place. The downtown is small and walkable, anchored by Battle Alley, a cobblestone street that earned its name in an 1800s skirmish between locals and horse thieves and now hosts the antique district that bears the same name.
Holly is best known regionally for two things. The Michigan Renaissance Festival runs across 312 acres at the southern edge of town and brings hundreds of thousands of visitors over its August-through-October run. And the Dickens Old Fashioned Christmas Festival, held the first three weekends of December, transforms downtown with carolers, parades, and Victorian decorations.
Outside those big draws, Holly is a quieter town with affordable homes, easy access to the Holly Recreation Area, and a community that knows how to throw a festival.
Compact downtown with steady local options anchored by Battle Alley. The Holly Hotel restaurant claims to be one of the most haunted in America. Big regional dining is a drive away.
Holly Recreation Area, Seven Lakes State Park, and Holly State Recreation Area all sit within easy reach. Fishing, hiking, and lakefront beaches all within minutes of downtown.
